Zinnia (Certified Organic)
Zinnia elegans. Origin unknown, obtained at a seed swap from an organic seed grower. This species of zinnia is native to Mexico and grown ornamentally in the United States. Colors ranged from white to pink, yellow, orange, peach, and red. Flower forms range from "pom pom" (dahlia-like) to flat. I planted these in honor of Winona LaDuke, internationally renowned indigenous activist, sustainable farmer and water protector. This seed mix contains so many colors and flower forms, you can use it as a jumping off point for your own selections. Zinnias grow easily and prefer well-drained, loamy soil and full sun. They grow best in dry, warm, frost-free regions, but are just fine as an annual crop in cooler regions of the US as well. Drought-tolerant.
